Foundation for Agility
– This is the first class in the agility
series. This class works on all of the
foundation work the dogs and handlers will need to
know for agility. We work on motivation, play
drive, positive/fast recalls, and obedience
commands that will help in the further classes. We
will introduce the clicker for agility. Be
prepared for weekly homework assignments.
Agility 1 – This is the next class after Foundation for Agility. We will teach the handler and dog team about body language and it’s importance in agility. We will continue to use the clicker for agility and start training obstacle foundation. Other skills include:
Agility 2 – This class follows the Agility 1 class. Here we start sequencing obstacles and dogs should be off leash now with a solid recall. Dog and handler teams will learn about independent obstacle performance. We will continue to work on body language, front and rear crosses, as well as introducing proper jump training. Other skills include:
Beginning Competition Class – This class is for dogs that are either just getting ready to compete or have just started competing in Agility. We will concentrate on handling skills needed for more advanced Agility. Some of these skills include:
Competition Class – This class is open to dogs competing at the open and higher level. Pre authorization for this class is needed and will be done with a one on one private lesson. Some of the skills that are worked on at this level are:

- Beginning targeting, on a flat board, for proper 2o/2o contact behavior
- Runs lowered A-frame/dogwalk
- Introduction to teeter
- Introduction to weave poles
- Running with handler without crossing in front of or behind
- Sits and downs on cue
- Introduction to front and rear crosses on the flat
Agility 2 – This class follows the Agility 1 class. Here we start sequencing obstacles and dogs should be off leash now with a solid recall. Dog and handler teams will learn about independent obstacle performance. We will continue to work on body language, front and rear crosses, as well as introducing proper jump training. Other skills include:
- Introduction to table
- Full height jumping with proper jumping form
- Full height dogwalk and A-frame
- Increased height to full height teeter
- Introduction to front and rear crosses with equipment
- Short and simple sequences
Beginning Competition Class – This class is for dogs that are either just getting ready to compete or have just started competing in Agility. We will concentrate on handling skills needed for more advanced Agility. Some of these skills include:
- Fast, independent contact performance (aframe, teeter, dogwalk)
- Fast, independent weave performance (12 poles from all angles)
- Body positioning in handling and the use of proper/consistent cues
- Pinwheels
- 270/180s
- Box work
Competition Class – This class is open to dogs competing at the open and higher level. Pre authorization for this class is needed and will be done with a one on one private lesson. Some of the skills that are worked on at this level are:
- Course analysis
- Advanced course challenges
- Out/distance work
- Front cross/rear cross refinement
- Challenging course work that will push the handler past their current level
